Title: Confusion with Van Der Waals
Post by: Sunra89 on June 17, 2017, 06:23:39 AM
I'm just going over some revision, and something has really thrown me off. It states non-polar molecules or (Van der Waals bonding) is the weakest type of bond, and covalent bonds are strongest, yet non-polar molecules such CO2 form a non polar yet covelant bond, so I'm confused whether or not this is a strong or weak bond.

The difference is the intermolecular bond and the intramolecular bond. The Bonding between carbon and oxygen (intramolecular) in CO2 is strong the bonding between some CO2 molecule (intermolecular) each other will be more weak.
