Title: Another way to precipitate iodine from iodine-povidone
Post by: Zeus01 on September 10, 2017, 12:02:46 PM
I was thinking about using NaOH or NAHCO3 to precipitate iodine extracted with HCl from iodine-povidone instead of using H2O2. Will it work?

In what way are those chemicals similar to hydrogen peroxide?  How do you know they will precipitate iodide?  Why do you want to "precipitate" iodine -- do you think that is the reaction iodine salts have with hydrogen peroxide.

I hope you don't mind, Zeus01:, me answering your question with more questions, but that's what we do here on the  Chemical Forums.  We detail that in our Forum Rules{click} (http://www.chemicalforums.com/index.php?topic=65859.0). You already accepted them when you signed up for our forum, and they apply to you, whether you agree with them or not, or even if you're unaware of them.

Yes, I read the rules. Anyway I just discovered that H2O2 is to oxidize and not neutralize, sorry but I haven't done chemistry at school yet. But now how about bubbling oxygen?
