Title: safe storage of sodium.
Post by: shaun262 on February 24, 2018, 01:04:32 PM
hi, I have just bought five 28 gram ingots of sodium metal all individually vacuum sealed in silver Mylar sleeves,  once i open one obviously i cannot reseal it so i bought some paraffin sweetened with kerosene, is that safe for storage? i cant seem to find a 100 percen confident answer.

Any help would be gratefully accepted.

Yes its safe. You have only to avoid to get humidity and carbondioxide.

excellent, thank a lot. I wasn't 100 percent sure because the last sodium i had was in mineral oil but this time its in separate ingots sealed under vacuum, i had read about Paraffin/Kerosene but wasn't completely confident about it, i think i will still test it with a small chunk just to be absolutely sure.

many thanks for your reply
