Title: Questions aqua rehia
Post by: Atrlm on November 27, 2018, 10:43:42 PM
Hi everyone.
there are some question about aqua regia
1)How can nitric acid change gold to gold ion?
Since the elecrode potential of HNO3 is lower than Au, the reaction seem impossible to be happened.
2) can I calculate the amount of hydrogen ion need for HNO3 to do the reaction by Nernst equation?
3) How to find out the ratio of HNO3 and HCl required to dissolve gold with some equations or theorems?

Thanks a lot

Try to google for aqua regia, its mechanism of action is well known (as well as the reaction equation which you can use for stoichiometry), discussed in many places and doesn't use NO3-.
