Title: Sodium Nitrite (NaNO2) Exposure to Air and Purity
Post by: TechnicGeek on February 04, 2019, 07:55:23 AM
Hello everyone.

I heard that when sodium nitrite gets exposed to air for more than 24 hours, it degrades its properties and purity.

How true is the above statement?
What really happens to sodium nitrite when it is exposed to air?

Thanks.

It will be oxidised to nitrate in long term.

Thanks.

By long term you mean starting from the moment it has been exposed?
I had mine in sealed plastic bag but it had clumps in it and they are hard as rock.

Probably its only wet.

Maybe do an analysis for concentration of it.
