Title: Forming an esther through ringopening with alcohol

Hi,

For a lab at school I have to make an esther that smells like raspberry.
But we have to do it with an atypical method.
They said we have to do a ringopening of a cyclic esther with alcohol but I have no idea where to find good information on it.
So my question is if anyone could point me in the right direction where to find this information that would be great!

 it's called a lactone. And its reactivity is quite similar to that of a regular ester

Odours are quite hard to predict. To know which ester you want, you have to search through existing human knowledge. Seeing which functions are where on you target molecule may give you further ideas.
