Title: reporting RC parameters
Post by: phth on February 22, 2019, 03:26:28 AM
How do you guys think recrystallization parameters should be reported? Has anyone come across nice published examples: e.g orgsyn?

e.g. "the oil was diluted with this (x mL) and that (y mL), and seeded. The first crop was taken after [time] (mp= 3-4 ºC) washing with hexanes. The second crop was taken after [time] (mp= 1-2 ºC), and the mother liquor was chromatographed (parameters) to obtain the product (z g, %).

Thx

If only people were as generous as that with details. Usually they piss me off by half assing it "recrystallized from water/ethanol." WHAT RATIO? WHAT MASS/VOLUME?

Old papers and modern papers are both awful about it. Why create extra work for people?

If you are providing that much detail in a paper you're publishing, you are a Saint.
