A compound containing titanium (Ti) and chlorine is analyzed by converting all the titanium into 1.20 g of TiO2 and all the chlorine into 6.45 g of AgCl.  What is the simplest formula for the original compound?

Mol of TiO2    = 1.20 / 79.9   = .015 mol
Mol of AgCl    = 6.45/143.4   = .045 mol

So

Moles of Ti atoms    = .015
Moles of O2 atoms   = .030
Moles of Ag and Cl   = .045

The above is a 1:2:3 ratio

So TiCl would have an empirical formula of TiCl3
