Title: What are applications for Nitrogen Triiodide?
Post by: PillowFaceMcGee on February 28, 2019, 02:45:46 PM
I'm busy with a science fair presentation, per se. It's not really a science fair as it's more analytical and serious as we will have to stand up and defend our projects against a committee including some very knowledgeable scientists for possible advancement to a regional competition.

I have chosen to make a presentation about the synthesis of nitrogen triiodide. Nobody has ever done anything similar and a fair step up from boring "nitrate concentrations in local water wells".

This though requires some sort of possible real world application, may it be thought up and drawn out, but logical or an actual practical/industrial application.

Anyone know anything about it? To be exact, possible or real practical/industrial applications of nitrogen triiodide to suffice it's synthesis, apart from sick gnarly lab experiments. Thanks  ;D

Thank you very much for this useful source, but you see, I don't have these books nor could I buy them and I could only find 2 relevant pages online (see attached pictures). I would be more than grateful if you or some else could refer to my actual question.
I will be sure to use these instructions though, they will definitely come in handy.

Thanks in advance

This compound is used just for demonstration purpose. There are also some scientific approaches to explain its unique instability (when dry).

Use nitrogen triiodode to synthesize trinitramide? Beware this is wild speculation from me

Add NI3 vapour in gaseous NO2, let light of proper wavelength break N-I but not N-NO2, obtain N(NO2)3.
Some people imagine trinitramide could become a rocket oxidizer.
