Title: Polyethylene equation??
Post by: charlie1001 on April 04, 2019, 02:10:38 PM
I'm doing a project and long story short we have to make a report on a chemical formula. I was chosen to do polyethylene but i can't find a formula with reactants and products. I know its formula is (C2H2)n but is there like an actual formula like 2H2 + O2 :rarrow: 2H20 ?

You found already the product. But the formula is wrong.  The reactant is the monomer of it ethylene. What is the right formula of it?

I hope this isn't too advanced but polyethylene is polymerized from ethylene using a class of metal catalysts known as Ziegler-Natta catalysts. Hopefully looking up some of these terms and structures will get you on your way.

nC2H4 = (C2H4)n  where 200≤n≤500
