Title: Synthesis of naphthalene
Post by: PyroLIZ on May 02, 2019, 07:34:52 AM
Hi!
Just was wondering if there is a relatively easy way to synthesize naphthalene.
I was thinking about reaction between trans-butadien and cyclohexene in the presence of light. We get C1CCCC([C-]1)C[C+]C=C.
There is another structure C1CCCC([C-]1)CC=C[C+]. When heating the c-c bond rotates forming 1,2,3,4,4a,5,8,8a-Octahydro-naphthalene C1CCCC2C1CC=CC2. And then we just dehydrogenate it.
Maybe you have some information about conditions of these reactions and other methods?

What about Haworth synthesis?
