Title: Periodic Elements found in other planets of Solar System.
Post by: prashantakerkar on May 07, 2019, 11:50:24 PM
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planet

Is it possible to discover naturally occurring new elements in other planets of Solar System other than Planet Earth?

I mean Jupiter, Saturn, Mars, Venus, Mercury, Pluto, Uranus, Neptune?

Thanks & Regards,
Prashant S Akerkar

No, they all evolved from the same proptoplanetary disk and are built from exactly the same elements we have on Earth.

As far as we know and would expect the laws of physics are the same everywhere in our universe.

Thanks.

Do you also feel periodic elements will not be discovered in Dwarf planets, Minor planets, Natural Satellites & Comets?

Thanks & Regards,

What do you think they will be made off?

Thank you.

Either in Solid, Liquid, Gaseous or Plasma form in case if they are discovered.

Are they there?

Are what there? Elements? Of course.

Are undiscovered elements there? No.

We have discovered, or made (in however small quantities), all the elements up to 118. Any undiscovered elements beyond that will be very unstable and very short-lived. They will not occur naturally anywhere in the universe (except perhaps briefly in supernova explosions?).

There is no chance of discovering elsewhere elements that are stable but just don't happen to occur on earth. We have discovered all the stable elements on earth; the only ones that don't "occur naturally" are those, like Tc, Pm and the transuranics, that have no stable or long-lived isotopes.

He's not asking about undiscovered elements I don't think. He's asking if the matter is the same  -  is the periodical table the same.  Physics is the same here on earth as it is on Jupiter. Thus - the same elements will occur when they have the stable conditions and the matter to do so.

Thanks for your inputs and also grateful to all for responding to my question.

I am asking about the undiscovered elements in Solar System.

Is the answer likely 1 or 2?

Can we keep a poll to all Astrophysicists regarding this question?

1

They may be discovered in other planets, dwarf planets, Minor planets, Natural Satellites & Comets but they may or may not be stable now or in future.

Or

2

They will be no new elements discovered in the entire Solar System now and also in future?

Is the answer certainly 2?

Thanks & Regards,

I have y a feeling you are either ignoring or not understanding answers you are being given.

All we know points to the fact physics is exactly the same in all the observable universe. At the most simple level that means all matter everywhere is built from the same blocks - protons, neutrons and electrons. Protons and neutrons combine to make a nucleus, nucleus is what defines the element. Protons and neutrons can be combined in an infinite number of ways, but only some of these combinations are stable and basically we know all these stable combinations. List of stable elements waiting for discovery was always limited and we have long found them all.

So no, moving to Jupiter or Alpha Centauri won't change anything - you will still see exactly the same stable combinations and exactly the same elements.

Sorry - I misread the OP as 'naturally occurring elements' rather than 'naturally occurring NEW elements'.
If the conditions are right then the elements will form. I can't think of anywhere where these 'new' elements would be stable.

All stable elements have been discovered. Any other "new" elements will have to short a half-life to be stable.
