Title: Is this R or S?
Post by: sharbeldam on May 16, 2019, 07:02:20 AM
On a youtube video for lead4sci, she said it is R, because she looked at the molecule from the front, but if i use the normal rule and look at it from the right side, OH and CH3 will be planar, CH2CH3 will be wedged to my side and Br will be dashed into the page and hence R but since Br is dashed and the 4th priority is planar, it should be S no?

Thanks alot in advance

This how I drew it (line drawing) and it will be S... what is wrong?

EDIT: Ok figured out my stupid mistake, I need to replace my 4th priority so it goes inside, then figure out the configuration and reverse it, not automatically reverse it.

Lowest priority substituent behind, other priorities clockwise - configuration R
