Search for graduate schools
« on: January 28, 2008, 03:37:58 PM »
Hi.  I'm a chemistry major in my third year and I was wondering how one goes about looking for graduate programs.  How do you know what programs (without visiting the schools) you may be able to get into and/or would like to go to.  It seems like a difficult task to find a professor who has research that is interesting to you just by searching on the web.  I think I want to go into organic or bioorganic.

Are you doing research at your school?  If so, you can ask your faculty advisor or grad students/postdocs in your lab about specific programs and professors, especially if your research interests are along the lines of your current research.

If you aren't doing research, then you should start soon.  Also, you can ask professors from whom you've taken classes.  Most will be happy to speak with you about your research interests and where best to pursue those interests.
