I have a dilemma regarding my GPA, graduation and employment.
« on: December 08, 2008, 08:20:07 PM »
I am a chem major and a rising second semester junior. For the past 2-3 semesters my grades within my major have been steadily dropping for a variety of reasons, but usually the most pertinent ones were deaths of loved ones. In each of these semesters I would have A's in my chem classes, yet once the finals came I would end up with C's and even one D. I know I won't be able to raise my GPA by next year. Also, I won't have much relevant work experience since most internships require you to have at least a 3.00. The most I will probably end up with is experience in undergraduate research if I have time to do it. I have no idea how I will venture in industry and I'm thinking of just dropping out and not wasting any more time or money. If I was able to see any light at the end of the tunnel I wouldn't complain, but this seems hopeless.

So, you get a degree and when you are done you have to take jobs that pay a little less a year and get work experience and do that for a year or two. Internships are nice and such, but very few traditional college graduates actually graduate with any significant amount of work experience.
