chlorination of phenols
« on: May 18, 2010, 01:45:04 PM »
How can I chlorinate phenol and get 2,3,5-trichlorophenol? Bromination is relatively easy but chlorination is problematic as I know. Any suggestion for starting?

This looks like diazonium chemistry, so one route would be to start with a nitration.
