Source of vitamins
« on: May 27, 2010, 08:45:43 AM »
Hello, can someone please tell me what vitamins are made from? That is to say, are they taken from animal sources or herbal sources or mineral sources, or are they synthesized in the laboratory for that matter? Last time I studied chemistry was in high school (ages ago...) so I really have no idea regarding this but I really need to know because I'm a Muslim, and if it is taken from animal sources or if they come in contact with natural (non-synthetic) alcohol during the manufacturing process then I cannot take vitamins.

I have asked my doctor, pharmacists, tried searching online, and even emailed couple companies enquiring about specific vitamin products. But all of my attempts thus far have been futile.

If someone could kindly enlighten me (and everyone else) on this matter, it would be a great help.

Thanks in advance.

You forgot about bacteria (eg Vit. B12).
During synthesis different alcohols are often used.
There are many books on vitamins synthesis. search in libraries

Please checked that your Vitamins are Halal Certified before buying and consumed.Vitamins  without the Halal Certification are doubtful about its sources of contents
