Convenient means of determining content of an acid chloride
« on: November 29, 2005, 12:28:05 PM »
Hi all,

I am going to make an amide bond starting from acid chloride and aniline. However, the chemical yield and mass recovery is not satisfactory (usually around 50-60%). I suspected the reason probably due to low content of acid chloride generated. However, the situation couldn't be improved after further increasing the equivalent of acid chloride and base.

My reaction is: acryloyl chloride + aniline -----> N-phenylacrylamide

My first question is how can I determine the content of acid chloride (except doing GC) conveniently.

Second question: Are there other better strategies or tricks to improve my chemical yield (e.g. DCC coupling for aryl amine?)

Thanks
