A fun Catalysis subject
« on: April 09, 2015, 10:13:20 AM »
Dear fellow Chemists,

Im a third-year student in Chemistry and I have an assignment to do a theoretical study into catalysis and its kinetics.

Since this is my first time actually enhancing my knowledge about catalysts, I'm a bit off about what subject to choose.
My question for this forum is: Do You know any interesting catalyst assisted reactions to do a theoretical study about?

I'm hoping for a subject that has already been studied a bit, so the gathering of information isn't that time consuming (we only get 3 weeks).

Some key terms for the assignment are:

- The reaction order
- The reaction mechanism
- The catalytic mechanism
- Michealis-Menten (enzymes.. mostly for biologists, but also for some pharma chemistry)
- Creation of a catalyst (structure, carrier, selectivity)
- Analysis techniques (SEM, XRD, BET-isotherms, DSC, TGA)

I really hope you guys can help me get a fun subject, I already looked a bit into petrochemistry and palladium for hydrogen gas but those subjects aren't really my thing.

Every idea, concept or just fun stories about catalysts are more than welcome!

Thank you for your time!
