Nomenclature help
« on: November 19, 2016, 10:52:57 AM »
It's been QUITE a long time since I've done nomenclature (took orgo lecture forever ago) but part of our final spectra analysis assignment in lab is to name the final unknown compounds. I've done most of them, but there are a few I'm not sure on- help, please?
1. Nitrogen central atom, with three substituents: one ethyl group, and two isopropyl groups (N-CH(CH3)2). My attempt: Diisopropylethylamine.

2. Benzene ring with one substituent: Benzene-O-CH2-CO-NH2. My attempt: benzene ethoxyacetylamine?

3. Unbranched chain- Cl-CH2-CH2-O-CH2-CH2-O-CH2-CH2-Cl. My attempt: 1,6-dichloro-ethoxyethoxyehtyl. (Eh... heh heh...  about 99% sure my attempt is nonsense).

1. Your name is understanable by chemist. But see wikipedia under: N,N-Diisopropylethylamine
2. This is acetamide, not acetylamine
https://pubchem.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/compound/2-Phenoxyacetamide
3. This is substituted 1,2-dihydroxyetane (ethylene glycol)
https://pubchem.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/compound/1_2-bis_2-chloroethoxy_ethane
