Ionic bonding question.
« on: October 07, 2007, 10:53:50 AM »
This is a question with the ionic bonding of metal lithium and non metal flourine and the question asks:
Draw the structure of a lithium ion and write a symbol for the ion.
though i don't know if its talking about the the electronic structure of it before or after the ionic bonding.
Help is greatly appreciated.  ;D

Before bonding, it is an atom.  After ionic bonding, it is an ion.

 Li ---> Li+1 + 1e

 F +1e ---> F-

 Li+ : 1s^2
 F-  :  1s^2 2s^2 2p^6
