Need help on energy absorbed
« on: March 30, 2008, 10:02:37 PM »
Please check whether it is solved correctly. Thank you very much.

17.1 g of water at -35 degrees C is heated to water at 115 degrees C. What is the total amount of energy absorbed during this process?

q1 = 2.03 (ice) x 17.1 x 35 = 1215
q2 (melting point) = delta H fus x m = 6.01 x 17.1 = 102.77
q3 = 4.184 (liquid) x 17.1 x 100 = 7112.9
q4 (boiling point) = delta H vap x m = 40.7 x 17.1 = 695.97
q5 = 2.01 (steam) x 17.1 x 15 = 515.56
q total = 9642.105 J
