« on: July 18, 2005, 02:30:40 AM »
Hi all,

How to calculate amount of acid required to dissolve X grams of metal or alloys ?

for eg if i have alloy made of silver and copper were composition is 50% silver and 50 % copper how can i calculate Y amount of acids like Nitric acid , sulphuric acid required to completely react with X amount of alloy i use in process ? ???

Treat dissolution of every compound separately.

If you have 50/50 Xg alloy dissolving it is the same as dissolving 0.5Xg of one metal and 0.5Xg of the second.

And, yes, alloys dissolves as individual metals. As with every generalized statement in chemistry this one can be probably falsified too, but I can't remember any counter example right now, so chances that you will meet such a case are probably minimal.
