ZnCl2 efficiency

dear friends
I have some ZnCl2 powder to catalyze benzophenone synthesis I'm not sure my ZnCl2 is  efficient enough or I should buy new ZnCl2 powder?
is there any procedure to determine it?

You're worried about it not being fresh enough?  Hard to see how it could be a problem, I don't expect it to break down into anything else.  Still, you might want to dry it scrupulously, if its old.  The best test would be to start with a small scale reaction first.
