Pre-lab: Help with general chem lab question? (simple)
« on: November 18, 2014, 01:56:44 AM »
I haven't done chem in a while and I don't remember how to approach these problems. Thank you!

1. Calculate the pH of a buffer solution prepared by mixing 20 mL of 5.0% acetic acid
with 20 mL of 0.50 M NaOH. (pKa for acetic acid = 4.74; Ka for acetic acid = 1.8 x 10-5)
2. Calculate the pH of a buffer solution prepared by mixing 20 mL of 5.0% acetic acid with 20 mL of 0.50 M NaOH and 100 mL of water.
3. Calculate the volume of 0.20 M NaOH required to bring the pH of 20 mL of 5% acetic acid to 4.74, the pKa of acetic acid.
