poster project AP Chem
« on: March 29, 2018, 11:20:00 AM »
I need to design a poster for my AP Chemistry class about an article that I should find in a technical journal, such as "Chemical and Engineering News" (https://cen.acs.org/index.html). I have to be able to connect the article to one of the topics we've done in class so far (especially Kinetics or Equilibria) and it should also be related to a bigger society problem/issue. I have no idea what exactly I should look for and where to start.
Can anybody recommend something help me get started?
Thanks!

Chemical and engineering news is not a technical journal, its a news branch of the American Chemical Society which analyzes the news from a science angle, summarizes technical articles, and interviews scientists.

A technical journal would be something like the Journal of The American Chemical Society or Nano Letters. If you have trouble getting access to a specific article I would be happy to help you.

Each of these journals has a link to articles which are their most most read of the year, and this would be a good place to poke around. In the abstract or introduction of the article the authors will typically mention why their work is beneficial to the field at large.

I'm not trying to be pretentious but you are probably going to have a lot of trouble reading these types of technical articles. They are written at the very highest level and are chock full of difficult jargon and abbreviations. I consider myself an experienced journal reader and I still have to fight through anything that isn't in my field.

You should ask your teacher if instead of a technical journal you can instead use C&EN, it will be much more digestible.

I didn't really know what Chemical Engineering News is, so thanks for clearing that up! My teacher told us to either use this or "another similar technical journal", that's why I mentioned it. But if you say that the other ones are pretty hard to understand I'll probably just stick to C&EN. I've checked the website out before and it seemed a little confusing because there was not specific department for Chemistry - or maybe I just haven't found it yet. I will have to look around and try to figure out how the website works a bit more.
Thanks again!

For high school let C&EN is probably a reasonable place to go.  The actual technical journals will probably be too advanced and aren't easy to access away from a university.  You may also try some popular science magazines like Scientific American, which is published by Nature and features quality articles by eminent scientists.
