Methanol and ethyl acetate
« on: June 11, 2019, 02:00:06 AM »
Is anyone familiar with a method for UV-VIS determination of ethyl acetate from liquor? We are in the middle of a project, and a GC instrument is unavailable to perform such analysis. It would save us if we had a method to measure ethyl acetate by UV-VIS.

Yes, if you can measure into the UV-B and C (100-250 nm), the carbonyl of ethyl acetate will absorb. You will need a quartz sample holder or something that does not absorb in this range like glass does.

However, lots of things absorb in this range, so if you have a complex mixture (like commercial liquor) I don't think it will be a good technique.
