Hello chemists,

I want to synthesize esters from formic acid, alcohols and CaCl2. The problem, however, is that I am not sure how much to pour calcium chloride into the reactant mixture as a desiccant. When I use an example 100 g of formic acid (using an excess of about 20 g) and 70 g of methanol by stoichiometry, 39 g of H2O are to be formed. So should I use the amount of CaCl2 according to the amount of water produced? How much would you use in this example?

Thank you very much. Lukas.stib
