Separating organic compound from oily solution

(1/1)

CroLifter:
Hello,

So i am presented with an issue. I received an oily solution which allegedly contains xxx mg of organic compound, esterified hormone in an oily solution (olive oil).

I need to somehow extract that compound and then weigh it on a precision scale, to measure how much of the compound is really inside the solution.

But i have no idea how to go about it. I tried to research online but didnt find anything on pulling the compounds out of oils.

Solution comes in 1ml glass containers.

Help is appreciated

AWK:
Gel chromatography?

wildfyr:
I'll expand on AWK's comment, run a silica gel column as described here

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Column_chromatography

It is a technique well suited for separating several nonpolar components.

CroLifter:
The good thing is that it is only one compound in one solvent.

Is it possible to use analytical techniques to assess how much you have in there? Something like GCMS would be much more precise and accurate than physically extracting and weighing it.
