Decarboxylation of a solution of Orotic acid?
« on: October 17, 2019, 12:10:53 PM »
What would be the best method for decarboxylation of orotic acid?   Can sodium hydroxide be used for this purpose?

Do you have access to the enzyme?

See  Biochemistry. 2009 Sep 15; 48(36): 8738–8745.

I know there is an enzyme decarboxylase, but this is meant to be an experiment in prebiotic chemistry, showing the formation of uracil when there were no enzymes.

Thank you very much for that!  Actually I did come across that article, and so that was always a possible option.  I just wanted to see if anybody here had any other ideas.  Thanks very much!
