HOW TO TELL IF PERPENDICULAR OR PLANAR UNHYBRIDIZED P - ORBITALS
« on: November 19, 2019, 08:47:27 PM »
In order to know if a delocalized pi bond occurs, we have to figure out if the unhybridized p orbitals are planar or perpendicular because if they're perpendicular, the pi bond won't occur. But how do you figure out when the unhybridized p-orbitals are perpendicular or planar? In addition, in benzene, how come all the unhybridized p-orbitals can't be linked in a chain-like fashion? Why and how do you know it's a ring shaper?
