Can piranha solution dissolve a diamond?
« on: December 12, 2019, 11:22:59 PM »
It is well known that at room temperature no acid can dissolve a diamond. However, I came across these two interesting videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ikQRcePrWVI , https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dgQf8trgDGY&feature=youtu.be and I wondered if it is actually true what chemistry textbooks contain.

I think what he gets is Caros Acid, persulphuric acid. I know that normal carbon will dissolve in nitric acid, perhaps, given enough time like hundreds of years, nitric acid will also dissolve a diamond?
