using a heat exchanger to heat up toluene in ASPEN
« on: January 28, 2020, 05:09:35 PM »
Hello!

I'm struggling to heat up a stream of toluene in ASPEN. We were asked to heat it from 70F (20 psia) to 450 F (75 psia). I chose a shell and tube heat exchanger, countercurrent. However, I can't seem to get it to the required 450 F with feasible conditions. I've tried even up to 1000 F of steam coming in at 100 bar and that only gets the toluene stream up to 250ish F. What am I doing wrong/what can I change to make this work? Is steam a good choice of a hot inlet stream? Would multiple stages help?

Thank you!
