How would you set up the Chitosan to use it to purify heavy metals? How do you set it up so there are different concentrations of Chitosan?

Also, how do I put metal into the water so I can see the reaction and measure the removal? Let's say I want to put Iron and Chromium in water. How do I also detect the change in Iron and Chromium concentration?

I'm sorry this is just all questions, but I basically have to write a lab report about this and seriously need some help. Thank in advance!
