One more equation question for SN

(1/1)

LuckyDude35:
Got one more question, I have here: 1-methylcyclopentanol + NaI in acetone (at 25 degrees C). Would this be substitution again with the I taking the place of the OH? SN1?

LuckyDude35:
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Everything about the system favors SN2 except the fact that it's a tertiary alcohol.  I'm not sure, but I think there would be no reaction.  There's nothing to make the OH a good leaving group either, so SN1 isn't going to happen.  It's possible that you could get a little bit of E2, but not much.
