Reaction between ethanol and metal hypochlorite
« on: February 24, 2020, 03:44:11 AM »
I am planning to investigate the reaction between ethanol and sodium hypochlorite since they are both used as disinfectant. But the some research showed that the reaction will produce considerable amount of toxic gases. From here I would like to ask:
1. what is the chemical equation of this reaction?
2. Is the rate of reaction fast enough to be measured?
3. If I replaced NaClO by Ca(ClO)2, is the result similar and the method used to measure the product produced the same?

Much thanks!
