Where to observe Cacodyl in nature or society?
« on: March 02, 2020, 04:33:01 AM »
Each person chose a molecule/substance at the beginning of this semester, which we will perform an assignment on at the end of the semester. I chose Cacodyl, or tetramethyldiarsine, for mine, which is proving slightly difficult.

One question I must answer is where can I observe Cacodyl in nature or society. I have researched this for multiple days now and I am not able to find any answer to where you can observe this.

Would anyone be able to help me with this? I am at a complete loss.

Thank you for any help in advance!

Nowhere, it has to be synthesized. But don't do it it has very bad smell and burns automatically in air. Its very poison, too.  Also is used for chemical warfare. So not to use.

Cacodyl - nice name and nothing but trouble. Wikipedia information and original literature are very interesting, mainly available through links in university libraries (in German). Other derivatives on Wikipedia are cacodyl chloride (not on Wikipedia), cacodyl oxide and cacodylic acid. Also, search in Partington's History of Chemistry History Google books.
Some derivatives of cacodyl were tried as anticancer drugs around a hundred years ago.

Cacodylate is sometimes used as a buffer, but it has certain disadvantages.  If you do some literature research, one of us might be able to comment on what you find.
