How to determine what protolyte to use as buffer at a given pH?
« on: February 26, 2020, 10:26:17 AM »
I need some help with the following question:

"What protolyte would you use to make a buffer at pH 6.2? What protolyte would you use to make a buffer at pH 7.4? Why?"

Protolyte? Can be a language thing but I don't know the term.

I will proceed on the assumption that "protolyte" means buffering substance.  It is a forum rule that you must share your thoughts before we can help you.  Maybe listing some of the properties of a buffer would be a good place to start.
