Finding pH of a compound from a similar compound's pKb
« on: March 12, 2020, 01:09:39 AM »
The question is:

pKb of (CH3)3N = 4.20
Find the pH of (CH3)3NHCl solution (0.284 M)

I am honestly lost on this one. The route I was thinking of going was using the equation pH = 0.5(pKa1 + pKa2) for (CH3)3N, since we can calculate its pH, but I'm not sure which values would be pKaq and pKa2. My textbook doesn't have any problems similar to this so I'm not sure how to approach the problem.

Check how you calculate the pH of NH4Cl.
