GROUP THEORY
« on: April 01, 2020, 11:09:40 AM »
[ReH9]2- has the trip-capped trigonal prismatic structure shown below. This structure can be described as a trigonal prism with a cap on the centre.

Write down the valence orbitals of Re and use the point group tables to determine their symmetry labels.

Can anyone help please? I don't understand any of it.

Thank you

Consider these steps:

1. Identify the point group of the molecule.
2. Identify the valence orbitals of Re.
3. Determine the symmetry labels of the valence orbitals by determining the effect of the symmetry operations in your identified point group when performed on the orbitals.
