Topic: How does the mass spec of diethyl ether have a peak at 31 m/z?  (Read 1054 times)

I am not a high school student. I am a mentor for a high school science team. My chemistry is not that great. We are studying mass spec now and after reviewing various fragmentation concepts we were trying to do some problems. The first problem we tried was analyzing the mass spec of diethyl ether and we are unable to explain why there is a peak at 31. Which would indicate a CH2-OH fragment? But I'm not sure how that would happen. Is this the McLafferty fragmentation?
