Help with naming functional groups
« on: May 10, 2020, 12:35:51 PM »
Hi,
first time poster but this will more than likely not be the last time.

So the assignment here is to name the functional groups in this compound.
[H]N(C)CC(O)C1=CC=C(O)C(O)=C1

Here is what I have got so far, on the left we have an amine, in the middle an alcohol and on the right a phenol. I'm not entirely sure what the role of the 2nd -OH group is and if it counts as an alcohol since its attached to a benzene ring. Do I have to point out that there is an arene as well or does the phenol cover that? I'm assuming it does. Did I miss any?

Also what would you call a benzene ring with 2 (adjacent) -OH groups attached to it?

Thanks in advance for helping me with this very basic stuff.
