Determining the Oxidation state of Manganese(III) acetylacetonate
tenki:
Hello Guys,
im about to synthesize Manganese(III) acetylacetonate and afterwards i have to determine the oxidation state by performing a redox titration. To do this i take 200mg of my synthesized product and add 1.00 g KI, 50 mL Water, 5 mL half diluted HCl and a little bit of NaHCO2. I let it sit for while and mix it up a little from time to time. The seperated Iodine will be titrated with a Na2S2O3-solution. The oxidation state has to be determinated by the used Na2S2O3-solution, but im not quite sure how to do it, because i have problems with the Reaction equation.
I´m happy with every help i get :)
Borek:
S2O32- is oxidized by iodine to S4O62-.
tenki:
But how does the iodine get seperated by the manganese-complex? Understandig that reaction equation is crucial find out the oxidation state by titration.
AWK:
Iodine can be extracted by various solvents.
tenki:
But i dont quite understand where the correlation with the Manganes(III)acetylacetonate and its oxidation state comes from.
