What is the name for Pb(ClO2)4?
« on: June 25, 2020, 03:13:24 PM »
I got lead chlorite but I looked online and it says the correct answer is lead (iv) chlorite. I thought roman numerals were only used for transition metals? Since lead has a known charge of 4-, wouldn't there be no need for roman numerals?

Lead can be  Pb2+ or Pb4+ In your case the name lead-(IV)-chlorite is correct.

So since lead can be 2+ or 4+, the roman numerals is needed?

Of course, how do you want name Pb(ClO2)2 and Pb(ClO2)4 without the Roman numbers. You can use di and tetra instead.
