If the reaction is fast I agree. Its a bit special running reaction with sulphuric acid as solvent. Is it possible you collect the wrong product, did you get a good amount?

Not at all, it was very little. However the paper I am following has a yield of only 25%. I guess there is a possibility since I didn't collect all of the spots. I can try FC instead of the column and see what happens.
