Safrole is an organic compound with the formula CH2O2C6H3CH2CH=CH2.
Are the above formulas the structural and empirical formula.Chemical formula = C10H10O2

Check the manual or at least Wikipedia what these mysterious words mean: structural formula, empirical formula.

According to my research the first eq. is structural and the shorter formatted eq. is the empirical, but the hydrogens and carbons don't add up.

The first one is the condensed structural formula or semi-structural formula. The structural formula should contain all atoms and bonds.

I'm not sure the second is the empirical formula. What definition are you using?

those resources don't really answer the question I'm asking. I can't find out why the structural formula and chemical formula don't have the same number carbons and hydrogens, but when I added both sides of the structural formula they do add up. CH2O2C6H3CH2CH=CH2: Left side has a total of 9C 8H O then add it to the right side with 1C 2H = chemical formula C10H10O2. The structural formula for this compound is made the same way as other compounds except you remove CH2 from it and set it equal to it, just not sure why they removed the CH2 and set it equal to it.

Left and right side? You aren't taking the = as an equals sign, are you? It's a carbon-carbon double bond.

what???? DLS.. look at that first link again.  click on the image of the molecule on the right

Notice the two lines between the two gray/black spheres on the right.  That is a double bond between two C atoms.  That entire molecule has 10 black (carbon) + 10 white (hydrogen) + 2 red (oxygen) spheres
  molecular formula = C10H10O2
  empirical formula = lowest whole number ratios of molecular formula = C5H5O
  partial structural formula = CH2O2C6H3CH2CH=CH2
                                                                       :spinup: double bond not equals sign

OK the = sign in CH2O2C6H3CH2CH=CH2 represents a double bond. Question, answered!
