Mechanism question
« on: August 16, 2020, 08:16:48 PM »
If one condenses a pentacovalent oxaphospholene with a chiral aldehyde via a Phosphono-aldol reaction, does the mechanism go through a p4 or a p6 intermediate. Low temp NMR studies showed a mess of intermediates that resolved to 2 diastereomers upon warming with a 20 to 1 ratio.

What do you think? Can you draw the reaction?
