neutralization degree of acid
« on: September 30, 2020, 05:24:45 AM »
I have seen in papers written that, the neuatrlization degree of acid is 30%, 40%, 80%. How to calculate these values?

Calculation of percentage of neutralization.

Concentration x  0,3 =  0,3c, then 0,7c is left.

You have 1 mol acid add 0,3 mol base then 30% is neutralized. 0,7 mol is left.

Polymer was synthesized using monomer 30wt %, crosslinker 0.3wt % and initiator 2wt %. This was given. Now how to calculate them individually to measure the corresponding quantities for preparing the mixture?

This is a total different topic, nothing to do with neutralization.

1 kg product contain 30 %wt. = 300 g Monomer, 0,3 %wt. = 3 g crosslinker and 2 % wt. = 20 g Initiator. What is the rest of the product.

The rest of the product was not mentioned in the paper. I have few comments to add on it. They are calculating each component proportion based on weight percentage. Have you come across moles percentage.
For example, if have monomer with moles 200, then crosslinker = 2% of moles of acid = 0.02*200 = 4 moles. So now I will add 4 moles of crosslinker to monomer solution. I doubt whether we can mix the various components for polymer synthesis based on moles percentage indeed weight percentage?

It is written % w.t. and that is mass percentage.

That is in mass%. I am asking can we use moles % instead of mass %. Is that measurement acceptable. I am doubting since I have never seen anywhere stating the calculations in moles%. Can I use moles% in my study

You can do if you know the molar mass of each.

I read in the paper that neutralization ratio is defined as the ratio of moles of acid to the moles of base. Or it is vice versa ratio. Can someone clarify this?

It depends what do you determine. Do you have a sample of acid and you use a base to determine the concentration  of the acid, or do you have a base and use an acid to get the amount of the base.

I have a weak acid. I am neutralizing this with a strong base NaOH. I want to know the degree of neutralization. How it can be calculated.

You might want to read the lectures on

I want to know the degree of neutralization. How it can be calculated.

From a neutralization stoichiometry. 100% neutralization is when all acidic protons reacted with added base.
