What would the mass of the electron
« on: September 28, 2006, 06:51:36 PM »
A student has determined the mass-to-charge ratio for an electron to be 5.64 x 10-12kg/C. In another experiment using Millikan's oil-drop apparatus, he found the charge on the electron to be 1.61e-19 C. What would the mass of the electron according to these data?
(Type your answer using the format 8.050e-3 for 8.050 x 10-3.)

I CANNOT FIGURE THIS OUT FOR THE LIFE OF ME....PLEASE DESPERATE NEED OF HELP....THANKS

People are here to help not do you work for you. Read the rules. You clearly just copied and pasted the question (and it is clearly is from some computer questionnaire system). And please use a descriptive subject line.

Tell us what you have tried and where you think you are going wrong.

Math is a tool in chemistry (and in science in general). Make sure you first understand what the question is and the principles involved. Do you understand the units? Etc. Then proceed to the math.

Hint: It is really easy.

You should understand why, but the only thing you need to get the correct answer and not understand anything about it is dimensional analysis.

Threadstarter: You are risking a possible lock or deletion of this thread..

Here's a hint: mass/charge = k

You know the charge and the value k.
"Say you're in a [chemical] plant and there's a snake on the floor. What are you going to do? Call a consultant? Get a meeting together to talk about which color is the snake? Employees should do one thing: walk over there and you step on the friggin snake." - Jean-Pierre Garnier, CEO of Glaxosmithkline, June 2006
