Does sodium bicarbonate melt at 250C
« on: December 24, 2020, 04:45:07 AM »
The melting point of sodium bicarbonate is 50C but when I heated it up yesterday it did not melt. Does it not turn into a liquid or is it just that I didn't leave it to heat up long enough?

Thank you for your help {:

No, it will decompose to Sodium carbonate , Carbon dioxide and water. It will not melt. Composition point is about 270°C.

No it is not.

Above 50°C it decomposes to Sodium Carbonate which like many inorganic salts melts >800°C
